The MAT is a poet in motion and an inventor riding on a wing! We bring a generous gift of clever ART with the brush strokes of a clown, the wacky language of Shakespeare and the boldness of a little girl fighting fire-breathing dragons. We make musical stories for the ears and bounce somersaulting acrobats from floor to ceiling, and that is just our children’s series. This year we’ll stage 18 original productions with over 300 performances in and out of the theater. Artist residencies, after school classes, the MAT Performance Lab and outreach touring plant the seeds for the next generation of young writers, actors, poets, dancers, musicians and their audiences.
Our performances strive for a palpable electricity between the performers and audiences that sparks the imagination, stimulates a critical response, tickles the all-important funny bone, and moves us to tears reminding us of our shared humanity, our shared story … our community! Shocking! You bet, but in the way that a lost explorer is shocked when they realize what they have been looking for is … just around the corner.
