Barbershop quartet and chorus singers will converge on Colorado Springs on September 21-22 to vie for honors in the Rocky Mountain District Championship. Approximately 400 vocalists from the surrounding 9 state area put their a capella harmony skills on display at the brand new Ent Center for the Arts.
The Rocky Mountain District is one of 17 districts that make up the Barbershop Harmony Society headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Winners at the district level qualify to compete in the 2019 International Barbershop Harmony Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Colorado Springs’ own America the Beautiful Chorus will compete against 10 others including Denver’s Sound of the Rockies which finished 4th at the 2018 International Championship. The America the Beautiful Chorus is directed by Jim Clark, a member of the 2010 International Champion quartet, Storm Front.
Barbershop quartet semi-finals will be on Friday, September 21st at 7 PM. The quartet finals will be Saturday evening the 22nd at 6:30 PM. The chorus championship will be conducted Saturday, September 22nd beginning at 10 AM. Saturday evening will feature a Show of Champions beginning at 8 PM following the quartet finals. All events will be held in the Shockley-Zalabak theater.
