Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) Theatre Department presents a nostalgic 80s romp of the classic rom-com A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM by William Shakespeare.
Athens is abuzz in preparation for the wedding of Duke Theseus and the Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. A group of bumbling townsfolk rehearse a play to honor the nuptial celebrations. Four star-crossed lovers escape to the forest to avoid unwanted engagements. The King and Queen of the fairies squabble in a custody battle and meddle with the humans who have strayed in the woods. Add a mischievous sprite, a misadministrated love potion, and a melodramatic donkey… will what happens in the forest stay in the forest?
Under the direction of Sarah Sheppard Shaver, PPSC rising star current students and fan-favorite theatre alumni reunite to upend expectations of this much-beloved story in our fast-paced adaptation on our unsupervised 80s tree fort of a set, all jam-packed into our intimate Mulliken Black Box.
*ASL Interpretation provided at the 11/7 performance by 2nd year PPSC IPP students.
Content Advisory: Fog and brief disco lights. Approximate rating of PG for fairies, love potions, Shakespearean innuendo, and physical comedy shenanigans.
