GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A former Grand Junction police officer convicted of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl while on duty in 2000 has been sentenced to eight years to life in prison.

Eric Janusz was convicted earlier this year of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. He was sentenced Wednesday.

The two met during a runaway investigation involving her brother.

Janusz had testified that they were sexually involved only after she was of legal age.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Former center Tom Nalen, who played 14 seasons (1994-2007) for the club, has been elected as the 24th member of the Denver Broncos' Ring of Fame. Owner & CEO Pat Bowlen made the announcement on Wednesday after meeting with the selection committee.

The induction ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29, at halftime of the Broncos' home game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Sports Authority Field at Mile High (2:25 p.m. MDT kickoff).

Anchoring a Broncos offensive line that was the standard among NFL units during his playing career, Nalen saw action in the third-most regular-season games (194) in franchise history, and his 188 starts are second only to quarterback John Elway in Denver's record books.

The 11 single-season 1,000-yard rushers and 93 single-game 100-yard rushers Nalen blocked for as the team's starting center (1995-2007) represented the most by an NFL club during that time and the Broncos' 395 sacks allowed in that span were the third fewest in the league.

Drafted by Denver in the seventh round (218th overall) in 1994, Nalen went on to make five Pro Bowls (1997-2000, ‘03)-the most by an offensive lineman in Broncos history-in addition to being named an All-Pro selection three times (First Team - 2000 '03; Second Team - 1999) and the NFL's Offensive Lineman of the Year following the 2003 season.

He was a member of Denver's back-to-back Super Bowl champion teams from 1997-98 and his 13 career postseason starts are tied for the third-highest total in team history. In addition to being a part of seven playoff teams, three division champions and two Super Bowl winners, Nalen's offenses finished ranked in the Top 5 in total yards on eight occasions.

Nalen blocked for 1997 MFL MVP Terrell Davis' memorable 2,000-yard campaign in 1998 and helped pave the way for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year performances by running backs Mike Anderson (2000) and Clinton Portis (2002).

A three-year starter at Boston College, where he earned numerous honors, including third-team Associated Press All-America, second-team All-Big East Conference and first-team ECAC recognition, Nalen was born on May 13, 1971, in Foxborough, Mass.

Nalen is the first former Bronco elected into the franchise's Ring of Fame since wide receiver Rod Smith (1994-2007) joined the distinguished membership last year. He is the second offensive lineman to be elected to the Ring of Fame, joining Gary Zimmerman (2003) with that honor.

The Broncos' Ring of Fame was created in 1984 by team owner Pat Bowlen to recognize former players and administrators who played significant roles in the franchise's history. The Ring of Fame is displayed on the Level 5 façade of Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Could it be Tebow Time in the Arena Football League?

Philadelphia Soul part owner Ron Jaworski says he's serious about his offer to former New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow to join the AFL team.

Jaworski, a former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, reached out to Tebow a day after the Jets released him in April. Jaworski has yet to hear from Tebow, but expects to eventually.

Tebow was brought to New York to be a dynamic addition to the offense, a complement to Mark Sanchez and a merchandising touchdown for the Jets. Instead, he attempted just eight passes for 39 yards and rushed 32 times for 102 yards - and no touchdowns.

Jaworski says Tebow's "in a funk" right now and needs to consider his career path back to the NFL.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Prima donna wide receivers are all the rage in today's air-it-out NFL, demanding passes and attention, preening for crowds and cameras.

Not in Denver.

Led by the shy Demaryius Thomas, the soft-spoken Wes Welker and the selfless Eric Decker, the Broncos represent the antithesis of those high maintenance superstars who are always going back to the huddle telling the quarterback they were open on that previous play.

The addition of Welker this offseason gives the Broncos their Three Amigos Version 2.0, a trio that combined for 297 receptions and 29 TD catches last season.

Rather than demanding to be featured, they all say they won't mind catching fewer footballs in 2013.

Peyton Manning might have the best triumvirate of ball-catchers in the NFL, and he definitely has the quietest.

DENVER (AP) - Carlos Gonzalez homered and drove in two runs, Jorge De La Rosa pitched effectively into the sixth and the Colorado Rockies beat Arizona 4-1 on Wednesday to take two of three from the Diamondbacks.

Dexter Fowler had two hits in his first start in the cleanup spot and Nolan Arenado added an RBI double as the Rockies caught Arizona in the standings. The Diamondbacks entered the day tied with San Francisco for first in the NL West.

De La Rosa (6-3) kept up his mastery against Arizona at Coors Field, improving to 8-0 with a 1.38 ERA. He struck out five and allowed six hits in 5 1-3 innings.

Relievers Edgmer Escalona and Matt Belisle bottled up Arizona to get the ball to Rex Brothers, who closed the ninth with Rafael Betancourt sidelined by a groin injury. It was Brothers' first save of the season.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's office and Connecticut's top prosecutor are working privately with state lawmakers to craft legislation that would block the public release of certain records from the Newtown school shooting and possibly other crimes.

Chief State's Attorney Kevin Kane said Wednesday officials are trying to address privacy concerns expressed by some Newtown families and come up with legislation that would prevent information such as crime scene photos and possibly tapes of 911 calls from being released.

While Kane acknowledged traditional media outlets typically do not publish gruesome crime scene photos, he said "with the Internet, we're in a whole different era."

Mark Ojakian (oh-JAY'-kee-an) , Malloy's chief of staff, said officials are "exploring ways to respect the families' right to privacy while also respecting the public's right to information."

GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - The Boy Scouts of America will convene a two-day meeting of 1,400 local leaders to consider changing its long-standing ban on openly gay boys in the scouting movement.

Officials of the Irving, Texas-based organization are scheduled to begin the meeting Wednesday. On Thursday, they plan to open the first of the ballots cast on whether to allow homosexual Boy Scouts.

Scouting officials have proposed allowing openly gay Scouts but retaining the ban on gay adult Scout leaders.

Some conservatives have denounced the proposal, saying the Scouts' traditions would be undermined by the presence of openly gay youth. Gay-rights supporters have welcomed the proposed change but want the Boy Scouts to lift the ban on gay adults as well.

The gathering is being held in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Grapevine.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is threatening to veto House Republicans' student loan bill.

The White House Budget Office said Wednesday the GOP plan does not guarantee current low interest rates for students and creates uncertainty for them. The budget office says that if Obama were presented the current bill, officials would urge a veto.

The Republican-led House on Thursday was expected to pass a bill that would keep interest rates on subsidized Stafford loan rates from doubling on July 1. In exchange, interest rates on new loans would be variable, based on the markets, and change annually.

House and Senate Democrats have urged a two-year extension of current rates while lawmakers work on a long-term solution.

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has indefinitely delayed the execution of convicted killer Nathan Dunlap, citing doubts about the death penalty.
Hickenlooper announced his decision Wednesday. He says he is granting Dunlap a reprieve, not clemency. Clemency would have changed Dunlap's sentence to life without parole.
Under a reprieve, Dunlap could conceivably be executed some day. The reprieve will stay in force until Hickenlooper or another governor lifted it.
Hickenlooper says Colorado's capital punishment system is flawed and the state doesn't have the drugs in place to carry out an execution by lethal injection.
Dunlap was convicted in 1996 of killing four employees at a Denver-area Chuck E. Cheese restaurant. The jury sentenced him to die. His last guaranteed appeal was rejected this year.
His execution was scheduled for August.
