Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado

Care and Share Food Bank is a southern Colorado-based not-for-profit (501(c)3) food bank affiliated with America's Second Harvest national network of food banks. Through a comprehensive food acquisition system, Care and Share acts as southern Colorado's sole food bank for locally and nationally donated and purchased food.

In FY2008, Care and Share Food Bank distributed 11.3 million pounds of food through more than 400 human service agencies, sister food banks and community collaborations to 99,000 different people. Our partner agencies include emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters for the homeless, child placement agencies, foster homes, domestic violence shelters, residential treatment facilities, not-for-profit day care centers for both youth and the elderly and other individuals in need.

In addition to receiving and distributing food, Care and Share Food Bank acts as the lead food bank for three regional America's Second Harvest Food Banks located in northern Colorado. We distribute semi-truck loads of product too large for these food banks to accept individually. The result is more donated food being brought into our region.

Care and Share Food Bank is an extremely effective and efficient organization, with 94 cents of every dollar going to support food acquisition and distribution, nutrition programs and efforts to build long-term food security. Only six cents of every dollar goes to administration and fundraising.
